Why now
The travel industry is one of the fastest-growing sectors globally.
The pandemic has enormously impacted the Travel & Tourism industry, and it will take years until it will be back to 'normal' standards. We have a huge opportunity to make Travel more sustainable and transparent and develop solutions for this. Travellers are increasingly interested in making sustainable travel choices now that they are more aware of the impact on people and the environment. They will look for more sustainable travel options and choose travel organisations and accommodations that apply sustainable practices.

Positive contribution
Travel connects different cultures and nationalities, creates jobs for local and global citizens, reduces poverty, increases livelihood and happiness and contributes to economic growth and prosperity.
Negative contribution
Travel creates carbon emissions, over-tourism, poorly paid jobs, increases pollution such as plastic in nature, increases local prices, and can damage destinations and the environment.

About
Mission
At ImpactBuddy, we help organisations accelerate their positive impact on people and the planet through our Impact Strategy, Measurement and Management program (IMM).
Vision
We believe in the power of collaboration. By working together, we can create a sustainable future for all and ensure that current and future generations can continue exploring the world and get to know other cultures.

Impact
Impact is the additional effect of the organisation's activities on stakeholders, the environment, and society (social). Positive and negative, direct and indirect, intended and unintentional. It is the value that an organisation creates by making a difference in the world by affecting the things important to society.

Impact measurement is the process of systematically quantitatively and qualitatively evaluating the impacts of the organisation. It helps to maximize the impact.

Impact management is the dynamic process that empowers organisations to measure and enhance their impact, reducing negative effects while amplifying positive outcomes for both people and the planet, all with minimum investment.

In 2003 she joined Booking.com, helping to grow the online business, markets and the teams worldwide in several global and regional leadership roles, of which five years in AsiaPacific.
Over these years, she developed a passion for mentoring social enterprises focussed on solving a social or environmental problem in their destination or region.
Marielle became a certified Impact Manager in 2020. She launched ImpactBuddy to combine the effective outcome-based techniques & principles of impact measurement with her knowledge, experience and passion to contribute to a sustainable future of travel.

People are explorers, and travelling creates memories of a lifetime, but we need to make sure that generations to come can keep exploring the world!
I have known Marielle for over 20 years and have seen her advising startups in the Booking Booster program. She is very dedicated and focused on helping businesses make a true impact.

We have been working in the social impact and development sector for ten years now. Still, the insights and the impact metrics that Marielle brought to the table were something we had never been able to conceptualise. Together with our team she developed the Impact Plan, Theory of Change and the Feedback Metrics, which enabled us to quantify our social impact better and comprehensively, resulting in creating real success stories with our partners.
Marielle understands the on-ground situation and adapts the methodology, coming from years of experience in the business and social sector. I highly recommend ImpactBuddy to any organisation that wants to measure and manage their impact while creating the right narratives to communicate their impact stories.

One Million Dreams
I worked together with Marielle on 'Thank You Care Takers' during the global pandemic. Our mission was to increase collective well-being worldwide by delivering 1 million' Messages of gratitude' to healthcare workers. The IMM process helped us create a clear mission and vision.
Through the insights into our activities' impact, we could effectively allocate our recourses. It increased the effectiveness of the campaign, and it helped with finding strategic partners. The impact report showed that what we do can make a difference and inspire other people to do the same.
